Aswan: Philae, Abu Simbel, Nubian villages and the calmest stretch of the Nile
Aswan is Egypt's most relaxed Nile city — granite islands, white sails, Nubian colour and some of the country's greatest temples within reach.
Why Aswan
Aswan is where the Nile is at its most beautiful: the river narrows between granite boulders and green islands, and feluccas drift past at sunset. It is quieter than Luxor, easy with children, and a natural place for winter sun.
Philae temple
The temple of Isis at Philae is reached by a short boat ride, which children love. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site Nubian Monuments from Abu Simbel to Philae, inscribed in 1979; the temple now stands on Agilkia Island after the international campaign to save Nubia's monuments from the waters of the High Dam (Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities). Late afternoon light on the stone is especially beautiful.
Packages

Nile Cruise Luxor–Aswan — 4 Nights
Four nights on a 5-star ship between Luxor and Aswan, with temples and tombs visited each day from the river. Luxury ships start at about 5,250 SAR per person.
The Abu Simbel trip
The two rock-cut temples of Ramesses II at Abu Simbel are about 280 km south of Aswan — roughly 3–4 hours by road each way, so road trips start before dawn. The alternative is a flight of about 45 minutes; door to door it is still around 2.5–3 hours (We Seek Travel). With young children, the flight or an overnight stay near the temples is usually kinder than a long day on the road. Carry passports for checkpoints.
Twice a year, on 22 February and 22 October, the rising sun reaches the inner sanctuary and lights the statues — a famous event that draws large crowds (Egypt Independent).
A Nubian village and the West Bank
A boat ride to a Nubian village on the West Bank is often the family favourite: brightly painted houses, warm hospitality, tea, local crafts and a glimpse of Nubian culture. Go in the afternoon and stay for sunset. Please ask before photographing people, and dress modestly.
Felucca sailing and the islands
A felucca — a traditional sailing boat — around Elephantine Island and the Botanical Garden on Kitchener's Island is the classic Aswan hour. It is calm, quiet and ideal at sunset. Ask for life jackets for children; we coordinate boats through licensed operators.

Starting or ending a Nile cruise
Aswan is one end of the classic Nile cruise. Three- to four-day cruises sail north to Luxor, while longer itineraries add more stops (Egypt Tours Plus). Ships usually stop at Kom Ombo and Edfu on the way. Starting in Aswan lets you add Abu Simbel and Philae first. Read our Nile cruise guide and see the Nile cruise Luxor–Aswan package below.
How Hayakkom helps
We suggest hotels on the Nile or on the islands, and coordinate the Abu Simbel trip, Philae, boats and cruises with licensed Egyptian companies, which operate and invoice them. If someone feels unwell, we can arrange a hotel doctor visit. Combine Aswan with Luxor or Cairo, and contact us on WhatsApp in Arabic or English.
