North Coast (Sahel) Egypt: Summer Guide for Gulf Families
Turquoise Mediterranean water, gated resorts and family chalets — where to stay, when to go, what it costs and how to book it safely.
Where to stay
New El Alamein — the newest city on the coast, with large hotels, a long promenade and the most activity in July and August. Marassi — a large gated resort with a marina, beaches and chalets or villas for families who want everything inside one gate. Sidi Abdel Rahman and Ras El Hekma — quieter bays with some of the clearest water. Almaza Bay and Marsa Matrouh — further west, calmer, with Agiba Beach among the most photographed spots in Egypt.
When to go
The season is June to September. July and August are the peak — book early. June and September are calmer, better value and still warm enough for the beach. Outside summer many resorts are quiet.

Tips for a smooth summer
- Book July and August early — the best chalets go months ahead.
- Ask for the rental contract, entry permits and deposit terms in writing before you pay anything.
- Respect beach flags: the Mediterranean can have waves and currents on windy days.
- Choose a resort with a pool and shade if you travel with young children.
