Orthopaedic treatment in Egypt for Gulf patients
Knee and hip replacement, arthroscopy, sports injuries and spine assessments with licensed Egyptian orthopaedic surgeons — with your travel, stay and paperwork coordinated in Arabic and English.
What orthopaedic care we can coordinate
We work with independent, licensed orthopaedic surgeons and private hospitals in Egypt, mainly in Cairo. The surgeon reviews your case and decides what is appropriate. Typical requests from Gulf families include:
- Knee replacement (one or both knees) for advanced arthritis.
- Hip replacement for arthritis or other hip joint damage.
- Arthroscopy (keyhole surgery) of the knee or shoulder, for example for meniscus, ligament or rotator cuff problems.
- Sports injuries — assessment, imaging review and a treatment plan, surgical or not.
- Spine assessment — a specialist opinion on back or neck problems, including whether surgery is needed at all.
Many people come first for an opinion. A surgeon may recommend physiotherapy, injections or simply waiting rather than an operation; that is a clinical judgement we fully respect.
How it works, step by step
- Send your reports and scans. MRI, X-rays and any previous reports, by WhatsApp or email. Arabic or English is fine.
- Video consultation. We book a video consultation with a licensed Egyptian orthopaedic surgeon, with interpretation if you need it.
- Written plan and price. If treatment is suggested, the hospital issues a written plan and an itemised price (operation, implant, hospital days). The price is set by the hospital, not by us.
- Your stay. We coordinate a hotel or serviced apartment near the hospital and airport transfers through licensed transport companies.
- Physiotherapy. Rehabilitation starts in hospital and continues after discharge; we can arrange sessions with licensed physiotherapists.
- Follow-up. Before you fly home you receive your reports in English (Arabic on request), and follow-up questions can be handled by video.

Treat & Recover by the Sea
Final treatment price is set by the clinic after reviewing your case.
Treatment at a licensed Cairo clinic, then a calm recovery stay by the Red Sea once your doctor clears you to travel. Example treatment range: hair transplant 4,500–11,300 SAR.
Indicative price ranges
These figures come from published Egyptian hospital listings on medical-tourism platforms (reviewed June 2026). They are an indicative range only; the final price is set by the hospital after reviewing your case, and depends on the implant, the surgeon and your health.
| Procedure | Published price (USD) | ≈ SAR | Hospital days listed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Total knee replacement, one knee | from 7,000 | from 26,250 | 3 |
| Total knee replacement, both knees | 13,000–24,000 | 48,750–90,000 | 5 |
| Total hip replacement, one hip | from 7,500 | from 28,100 | about 2–5 |
| Knee arthroscopy | from 2,500 | from 9,400 | not stated |
Sources: MediGence – knee replacement, one knee, both knees, hip replacement, knee arthroscopy. Converted at 1 USD = 3.75 SAR. Prices exclude flights, your hotel and companions' costs. We did not find a reliable published price for shoulder arthroscopy or spine surgery, so those are quoted by the hospital case by case.
How long to stay in Egypt
For a single knee or hip replacement the hospital listings above show around 3 days in hospital (2–5 for a hip), and the same source advises international patients to allow roughly 2–4 weeks in the country, or longer, depending on recovery. Arthroscopy usually involves a shorter stay, but your surgeon will give you the exact timeline in the written plan.
Many families combine recovery with a quiet stay. Our Treat & Recover by the Sea option covers the recovery stay and transfers (2,700–5,650 SAR), with the treatment itself priced separately by the hospital. Use the calculator to estimate the non-medical side.
When you should not fly — your surgeon decides
We never decide when you are fit to fly. That decision belongs to your surgeon. As general background, the Hospital for Special Surgery notes that hip and knee replacement raise the risk of blood clots, that this risk lasts for about four to six weeks after surgery, and that long flights make it worse (HSS). Surgeons usually manage this with blood thinners, compression stockings and advice to walk the aisle and drink water.
Please tell the surgeon about any previous clots, heart or lung conditions, and the length of your flight home. If the surgeon asks you to wait longer, we will help you change your hotel dates and transfers.
What we do, and what the doctor decides
We coordinate: collecting your reports, booking consultations, interpretation, accommodation and transfers through licensed companies, and keeping your family informed. The doctor decides: diagnosis, whether to operate, which implant, the price of treatment, discharge and fitness to fly. Hayakkom is not a hospital or clinic and does not give medical advice or guarantee outcomes.

Questions people ask
Can a surgeon review my MRI before I book flights?
Yes. Send your MRI, X-rays and reports and we will book a video consultation with a licensed Egyptian orthopaedic surgeon. You only decide on travel after you have the surgeon's opinion and the hospital's written plan.
Is the price fixed once I receive it?
The hospital's written quote is based on your reports. After examining you in person, the surgeon may change the plan (for example the implant or the number of hospital days), and the hospital will then update the price. Ask the hospital what the quote includes before you travel.
Can a family member stay with me?
Yes. Hospitals have their own rules for companions on the ward, and we coordinate a nearby hotel or apartment for the rest of the family, with transfers by licensed transport companies.
Do you guarantee the result of the operation?
No. Nobody can honestly guarantee a surgical result. The surgeon will explain the expected benefits and risks for your case. Our role is coordination, not treatment.
