Eye surgery and LASIK in Egypt
Laser vision correction and cataract surgery with licensed eye surgeons in Cairo — coordinated around a family stay, in Arabic and English.
Which procedures are available
Hayakkom coordinates appointments with independent, licensed ophthalmologists in Cairo. Which technique suits you — if any — is the surgeon's decision after examining your eyes.
- LASIK (microkeratome) — a flap is created with a blade, then the cornea is reshaped with a laser.
- Femto-LASIK — the flap is made with a femtosecond laser instead of a blade.
- PRK / TransPRK — surface treatment without a flap; healing takes longer.
- SMILE — offered by some Cairo centres (for example as SMILE Pro); not every clinic has the equipment, so we confirm before booking.
- Cataract surgery — the cloudy lens is replaced with an artificial lens (monofocal, toric, EDOF or multifocal).
Eligibility tests on arrival
Laser surgery is never booked purely on paper. On your first day the clinic runs tests such as corneal topography (Pentacam), corneal thickness (pachymetry), refraction and a dry-eye check. Some people turn out not to be suitable for laser treatment, or are better suited to a different technique. If so, the surgeon will explain why, and you will still have your holiday plans in place.
Bring your current glasses prescription and any previous eye reports. If you would like an opinion before travelling, we can arrange a video consultation, but the final decision is made only after the in-person tests.

Sources: LASIK cost in Egypt and cataract cost, Shaarawy Cornea Clinic, Cairo. The clinic states its laser prices include pre-operative tests, first-week medication and the first follow-up. Converted at about 13.9 EGP per SAR. Flights and hotel are not included.
How many days to plan
- Femto-LASIK or SMILE: about 4–5 days in Cairo, according to the same clinic.
- PRK / TransPRK: about 7 days, because the surface heals more slowly.
- Cataract, one eye: at least 3–5 days. When both eyes are treated they are usually done 1–2 weeks apart, so plan around 14–18 days or two separate trips.
Many families turn these days into a Cairo break. Our Cairo Family Stay & Discover (5 nights, 2,700–6,200 SAR per family of four) fits a laser-surgery timeline well; just keep the first day or two after surgery quiet and follow the clinic's instructions on sun, dust and swimming.
Flying home after surgery
Your surgeon decides when you can fly, usually at the follow-up check. As general information, a UK laser clinic notes that most LASIK and SMILE patients are fit to fly around 24 hours after treatment once cleared at the day-one check, while surface treatments such as PRK take longer (London Vision Clinic). Cabin air is dry, so keep your prescribed lubricating drops in your hand luggage and avoid rubbing your eyes.
What we do, and what the doctor decides
We coordinate: clinic appointments, interpretation, your hotel and transfers through licensed companies, and the holiday side of the trip. The doctor decides: whether you are suitable, which technique or lens, the final price, and when you can fly. Hayakkom is not a clinic and does not guarantee results.

Questions people ask
What happens if the tests show I am not suitable for LASIK?
The surgeon may suggest another technique, such as PRK, or advise against surgery altogether. Ask the clinic in advance how the tests are charged if you do not go ahead. Your hotel and holiday plans continue as booked.
Can I do both eyes in one visit?
For laser vision correction, the published prices above are for both eyes; your surgeon confirms whether both are treated on the same day. For cataract surgery the eyes are normally treated one to two weeks apart, so plan a longer stay or two trips. Your surgeon confirms the schedule.
Can my family enjoy Cairo while I recover?
Yes. Recovery after laser surgery is mostly rest at the hotel for the first day, so many families plan sightseeing around it. We coordinate excursions with licensed tourism companies.
Is the price shown the final price?
No. The ranges are indicative and come from one clinic's published list. The clinic sets your final price after examining you and choosing the technique or lens with you.
