Hair transplant in Egypt or Turkey? A practical comparison for Gulf patients

Turkey is usually the first name Gulf patients hear when they start looking at hair transplants abroad, and Egypt is increasingly on the list too. The honest answer to "which is better?" is that the country matters far less than the clinic and the surgeon. This guide sets out how to compare the two like for like, so the decision rests on facts you can check rather than on advertising.

The country matters less than who operates

Both countries have experienced surgeons, and both have high-volume clinics where most of the work is done by technicians while the surgeon supervises several patients at once. Neither model is hidden, but it is rarely explained in the advert.

Before comparing prices, ask each clinic in writing who will do each step on your day: who designs the hairline, who carries out the extraction, and who places the grafts. You should receive names, not job titles.

How to check the licence in each country

  • Egypt: ask for the surgeon’s full name and registration number with the Egyptian Medical Syndicate, and confirm the facility is licensed by the Ministry of Health and Population.
  • Turkey: ask for the surgeon’s registration details and the facility’s Ministry of Health licence, including its authorisation to treat international patients.
  • In both countries: a licensed surgeon will not mind the question. A clinic that avoids it is giving you an answer.

Comparing quotes fairly

Advertised prices are hard to compare because packages are built differently. One quote may include the hotel, airport transfers, medication and aftercare products; another may include only the procedure.

A fair comparison needs the same three things from every clinic: a graft estimate made by the operating surgeon after reviewing your photos, a written list of what the price includes and excludes, and the cancellation terms. Without those, the cheaper quote is often not the cheaper trip.

Travel time and length of stay

From most Saudi cities the flight to Cairo is shorter than the flight to Istanbul, which matters on the way home when your scalp is still healing and you want the journey to be simple.

In either country, most plans need a few days on the ground: a consultation, the procedure day and at least one check before you fly. The exact number of days is set by the surgeon, not by the package.

Language, food and the trip around it

In Egypt you can speak Arabic with everyone from the surgeon to the driver, halal food is the default, and families often combine the trip with Cairo or a few days on the Red Sea once the surgeon allows it. In Turkey most Gulf patients rely on an interpreter provided by the clinic, which works but adds a step to every conversation about your care.

Follow-up after you go home

Growth develops over months, so the most important question is who answers you at month three or month nine, and in which language. Ask for written aftercare instructions and a named contact before you travel, wherever you choose.

A simple checklist for either country

  • Surgeon’s full name and registration number
  • Who does each step on the day, in writing
  • Graft estimate from the operating surgeon, after reviewing your photos
  • What the price includes and excludes
  • How many days you need to stay
  • Named aftercare contact and language
  • Cancellation and refund terms
