Many Gulf families now plan one trip for two purposes: a check-up, dental work or another treatment in Cairo, and a calm holiday for the whole family. Done well, it saves a second journey. Done badly, the holiday can get in the way of recovery.
In short: Treatment and holiday work best together when the treatment is planned, not urgent, and the doctor agrees the timing. A common plan is sightseeing first, then treatment in Cairo, then a quiet recovery stay by the Red Sea or in Ain Sokhna. Your doctor decides when you can swim, dive, sunbathe or fly. A recovery stay with transfers typically costs 2,700–5,650 SAR plus the treatment, which the clinic prices after reviewing your case.
Which treatments suit a holiday?
- Full check-ups — usually a day or two, with little or no recovery. See full check-up in Egypt.
- Dental treatment — cleaning, fillings and veneers fit easily; implants need more than one visit. See dental treatment.
- Physiotherapy — sessions can be planned around a stay. See physiotherapy.
- Eyes and LASIK — a short procedure, but with clear rules on sun, water and dust afterwards. See eyes & LASIK.
- Hair transplant, cosmetic and bariatric surgery — possible, but recovery comes first and the holiday must stay gentle. See hair, cosmetic and weight-loss surgery.
What comes first: the holiday or the treatment?
As a general pattern, active days come before treatment and quiet days after it. Many families visit the Pyramids or the Grand Egyptian Museum first, then the patient has treatment in Cairo while the others continue sightseeing, and the family ends the trip somewhere calm by the sea. The treating doctor always decides the final timing.
What to avoid after treatment
After many procedures, doctors advise patients to avoid things that are part of a beach holiday — for example strong sun, swimming or diving until wounds or eyes have healed, heavy lifting, or flying too soon. The rules differ by treatment and by patient, so ask your doctor for written instructions and plan the holiday around them, not the other way round.
Where to recover
Treatment usually happens in Cairo, where most specialist hospitals and clinics are. For recovery, families often choose places that are calm and close: Ain Sokhna (about two hours from Cairo), El Gouna or a quiet Red Sea resort. Our Treat & Recover by the Sea package combines both, and recovery & relaxation lists calm places to stay.
Planning with the family
- Book connecting rooms or a suite so the patient can rest while children stay busy.
- Plan activities for the others on the treatment days — a museum, a short trip, the pool.
- Keep a private car on standby for clinic visits and follow-ups.
- Ask for a doctor visit at the hotel if something worries you after treatment; see doctor at your hotel.
Before you travel
- Send recent reports, X-rays or scans so the doctor can review your case.
- Speak to the doctor first by video consultation.
- Get a written, itemised estimate from the clinic or hospital before paying.
- Check your insurance and what it covers abroad.
- Leave spare days in the plan in case the doctor wants a later check.

Can I go on holiday straight after treatment?
It depends on the treatment. Check-ups and simple dental work usually allow it; after surgery, LASIK or a hair transplant your doctor will set limits on sun, swimming, diving and flying. Follow the written instructions.
Should the holiday be before or after the treatment?
Usually active sightseeing first and quiet recovery after the treatment, but your doctor decides the final timing.
Where is a good place to recover near Cairo?
Ain Sokhna is the closest beach to Cairo. El Gouna and quiet Red Sea resorts are also popular for calm recovery stays.
How much does a treatment-and-holiday trip cost?
The recovery stay and transfers typically cost 2,700–5,650 SAR. The treatment itself is priced by the clinic after reviewing your case.
