More Gulf families are asking about physiotherapy and rehabilitation in Egypt, often after an operation, an injury or a long illness, and often as part of a longer family stay. The first questions are always the same: how many sessions, and how long do we need to stay? This guide explains who answers those questions and how to plan the trip around them.
Who decides how many sessions you need
The number of sessions is set by the licensed physiotherapist after assessing you, working from your own doctor’s referral and reports. It is not something a coordinator, a package or an advert can decide in advance, and you should be wary of anyone who quotes a fixed number before you have been assessed.
Many programmes run over several weeks with a few sessions each week, but your plan may be shorter or longer. Ask the centre for the proposed schedule in writing after the first assessment.
What to send before you travel
- Your doctor’s referral or latest medical report
- Recent imaging reports, if you have them
- The operation report, if the physiotherapy follows surgery
- A list of the medicines you take
- Your mobility needs: wheelchair, walking aid, lift access, accessible bathroom
With these, a licensed centre can tell you before you book whether it can see you and roughly how long it expects the programme to last.
How long to plan your stay
Because the programme is confirmed only after the first assessment, plan your accommodation by the week rather than booking a fixed number of nights. Leave room for the assessment day at the start, for rest days, and for a final review before you fly home.
Choosing where to stay
The right place is close to the centre, with lift access or a ground floor, an accessible bathroom and short, comfortable transfers. Serviced apartments often suit families better than hotels on longer stays, because everyone has space and a kitchen.
Combining it with a family trip
Sessions usually take part of the day, which leaves time for the family. Cairo has plenty to do within a short drive, and Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea is about two hours away by road for a weekend, if the physiotherapist agrees.
Continuing at home
Before you leave, ask the centre for a written report and a home programme you can give to your doctor or physiotherapist in Saudi Arabia, so the progress you made continues after you return.
Questions to ask the centre
- Is the centre licensed, and who will treat me?
- Will I see the same physiotherapist each time?
- How long is each session?
- Can we speak in Arabic?
- Will I receive the plan and the cost in writing?
